Project
Offshore Platforms and Pipeline Network Maintenance
Location
Red Sea, Egypt
Description
El-Kholy Contractors successfully secured major offshore fabrication and maintenance contracts with General Petroleum Company (GPC) for a consecutive 10-year period. These contracts involved comprehensive maintenance of GPC's platforms in Egypt, including the GG, FF, Amer 2, 4, 6, and 7 platforms. This achievement marks a significant milestone in our commitment to quality in marine infrastructure.
The project further solidified our presence in the offshore infrastructure industry and showcased our ability to manage complex underwater operations, including both maintenance and replacement tasks. Over the course of the contracts, we successfully replaced all of GPC's boat-landings, which are fabricated locally in our workshops and weigh nearly 45 tons each. We also replaced rubber fenders and selected barge bumpers.
The scope of work included removing seashells and other residues from platform jackets, inspecting underwater components using ultrasonic thickness gauges, and conducting underwater blasting and coating of splash zones with Interzone 101 solvent-free epoxy paints.
One of the key projects awarded to our company involved the complete repair of a 6-inch thick underwater crude oil pipeline. This project included the installation of a mechanical connector (smart flange and connector), underwater cold cutting at a depth of 21 meters, and the installation of swivel flanges. Associated testing and flushing operations were also conducted at Platform Amer 2.
Additionally, the project scope involved surveying the seabed and underwater pipeline with remotely operated vehicle (ROV) cameras, free span points correction, maintenance of cathodic protection systems, and removal of scrap from the seabed.
